Trying to decide between a 2023 and 2024 Street Glide? Here's the real difference – and which one makes more sense for your money.
The Short Answer
If you want the latest tech and don't mind paying more: 2024. If you want proven reliability and better value: 2023. Both are excellent bikes. The 2023 is usually $2,000-$3,000 cheaper used, and there's not enough difference to justify that gap for most riders.
Engine: Same Milwaukee-Eight Platform
Both the 2023 and 2024 Street Glide use the same Milwaukee-Eight engine. You get the 107 or 114 cubic inch option on both. Same power, same torque, same reliability. Harley didn't change the engine between these years – it's the same proven platform.
That means:
- Same 111 ft-lb torque (107) or 122 ft-lb torque (114)
- Same smooth power delivery
- Same proven reliability
- Same maintenance requirements
If you're buying used, the engine condition matters more than the year. A well-maintained 2023 will run just as good as a 2024.
What Actually Changed in 2024
Harley made some updates, but nothing game-changing:
- Updated infotainment system – Slightly better screen, improved connectivity
- New paint options – Different color choices
- Minor styling tweaks – Small cosmetic changes
- Updated electronics – Better integration with phones, apps
That's about it. The core bike is the same. Same frame, same suspension, same brakes, same fairing. The 2024 has better tech, but the 2023 isn't outdated by any means.
Pricing: The Real Difference
Here's where it gets interesting. Used 2023 Street Glides typically sell for $21,000-$24,000. Used 2024 models go for $24,000-$27,000. That's a $3,000 difference for essentially the same bike with slightly better tech.
Is that worth it? For most riders, no. The 2023's infotainment system is still good. The paint options are still solid. The bike still rides the same. You're paying $3,000 for incremental improvements, not a fundamentally different bike.
Which One Should You Buy?
Buy a 2023 if:
- You want better value
- You don't need the latest tech
- You're buying used anyway (so warranty doesn't matter)
- You want to save $2,000-$3,000
Buy a 2024 if:
- You want the latest features
- You're a tech guy who cares about infotainment
- You don't mind paying more
- You want the newest used bike possible
What About Mileage?
This matters more than the year. A 2023 with 5,000 miles is usually a better buy than a 2024 with 15,000 miles. Condition and maintenance history beat model year every time.
When I'm selling used Street Glides, I look at:
- Mileage
- Service history
- Condition
- Upgrades/modifications
- Overall condition
The year is way down the list. A clean 2023 with low miles and full service records beats a beat-up 2024 every time.
Common Upgrades on Both
Both years get the same common upgrades:
- Stage 1 performance kits
- Premium audio systems
- Highway pegs
- Luggage upgrades
- Custom paint
These upgrades cost the same regardless of year. A 2023 with Stage 1 and premium audio is worth more than a stock 2024. When you're buying used, the upgrades matter more than the year.
The Bottom Line
Both the 2023 and 2024 Street Glide are excellent bikes. The 2024 has slightly better tech, but you're paying $2,000-$3,000 more for incremental improvements. For most riders, the 2023 is the smarter buy.
Focus on condition, mileage, and service history – not the year. A well-maintained 2023 will serve you just as well as a 2024, and you'll save thousands.
